This is the list of all the classes that we have taught since we began. Please browse through the list and let us know if you would like us to offer any of the classes again that you find interesting.

Sun, Jan 8:

  • “Jeans Never Die” Art
  • Time: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM
Location: Crown Hill United Methodist Church
Come enjoy this workshop on putting jeans pockets to work long after the rest of the jeans have fallen to shreds. All materials are provided to create these little storage pockets for the refrigerator or locker—magnets, adhesives, collage materials, ephemera, ribbons, and of course the pockets. Great project for the whole family!

    Facilitator
Dorothy Skans is a Seattle native and a life-long crafter. She joined Seattle Free School in order to pass along her love of paper art as well as to pass along her over abundance of paper.

Location: Crown Hill United Methodist Church
    8500 – 14th Avenue NW
    Bus Routes #48 or #15
(Enter through the north parking lot door or the east handicap door and follow the signs to the Fellowship Hall.)

Check out the Seattle Free School blog for pictures of these great projects!

Mon, Jan 9:

  • Facilitator Class
  • Time: 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM
    Location: Street Bean Espresso
Is there a skill, hobby, or chunk of knowledge you are passionate about? Want to share that passion with other interested people? Curious about how many people with an aversion to public speaking have come to love being facilitators?

Come to this class to learn how to be a facilitator with Seattle Free School, and to meet and network with other facilitators. This informal meeting covers what Seattle Free School is, tips on teaching, and how to schedule and promote your course.

Whether you wish to facilitate a class, or just want to learn more about Seattle Free School, you are welcome to attend this meetup. We recognize that teaching others can be an intimidating task, and we are here to support you and provide assistance in making Seattle Free School a fun adventure for you.

Street Bean Espresso is a nonprofit Belltown café that provides job training and employment for young adults working to exit street life. You can find it at 2702 Third Ave Seattle, WA 98121. For more information on the location please see http://streetbeanespresso.org/

Sat, Jan 21:

  • Emotions 101: Navigating your Emotional Landscape
  • Time: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
    Location: Northgate Library
Emotions define human life, but very few of us are taught what emotions are and how they can be useful. Often people feel like they suffer from “too much” emotions, or feel like it is difficult to live with emotions harmoniously. Join Stephanie and Linda as they lead a group through lecture, exercises, and discussions on how to identify and listen to the emotional world. This workshop will include theories and practical tips, and the presenters will provide resources and information for individuals to take home.

Stephanie McDonald, MA is a licensed psychotherapist. She works in a community mental health clinic in the Puget Sound area. Stephanie enjoys deep bonds with animals (humans and otherwise) and has an interest in issues of social diversity, and nature-based spirituality. She tries not to take herself too seriously, and enjoys teaching what she has learned in the field of human behavior, through observance and practice.

Linda Wehnes, MA is a licensed psychotherapist. She works in medical and mental health research, and has her own private therapy practice in Seattle. Linda is a Zen practitioner, and her understanding of emotions draws deeply from her experiences with this practice. Her interests include literature, yoga, and art. Linda has also been known to read cookbooks for pleasure and started her first container garden this year.

Class is at the Northgate Library Branch:
    10548 Fifth Ave NE
    Seattle, WA 98125
