Emotions 101: Navigating your Emotional Landscape
Time: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Location: University Library Meeting Room
Emotions define human life, but very few of us are taught what emotions are and how they can be useful. Often people feel like their emotions are confusing or too intense. This feeling can lead some to believe that emotions are mostly a burden, and not the life enhancing gift they often are. Join Stephanie and Linda as they present ways to understand the emotional world, and live with emotions in a more harmonious way. The format of this class is primarily lecture and individual exercises. Sharing with the group during discussion is optional. The exercises teach mindfulness techniques for identifying emotions and tolerating moods. The presenters will provide resources and information for individuals to take home.
Stephanie McDonald, MA is a licensed psychotherapist. She works in a community mental health clinic in the Puget Sound area. Stephanie enjoys deep bonds with animals (humans and otherwise) and has an interest in issues of social diversity, and nature-based spirituality. She tries not to take herself too seriously, and enjoys teaching what she has learned in the field of human behavior, through observance and practice.
Linda Wehnes, MA is a licensed psychotherapist. She works in medical and mental health research, and has her own private therapy practice in Seattle. Linda is a Zen practitioner, and her understanding of emotions draws deeply from her experiences with this practice. Her interests include literature, yoga, and art. Linda has also been known to read cookbooks for pleasure and likes to grow what she eats.
Class is at the University Library, 5009 Roosevelt Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105
