• CLASS IS FULL! Auto Repair- Brakes

CLASS IS FULL
Have you ever wondered about doing the brakes on your own vehicle? Is it hard? How do you keep from being scammed. In this class we will go over how to do the front disc brakes on a car, talking about brake pad wear, what you can do on your own at home and how to do your brakes safely.

This class is NOT open to children do to the dangerous nature of the class. Kids 16 and older are welcome.

Please bring appropriate clothing as this class is outside and will happen rain or shine.

You will be emailed the directions to the class the day before the class so please put in correct contact information in your registration.

Finally there isn\'t a lot of room in this class as we will allow only about 5 students due to the nature of the class. If you aren\'t sure that you can make it please don\'t sign up and if you need to cancel for any reason please email seattlefreeschool (at) gmail.com. We will take a few more students than allowed to create a waiting list.

If you've wanted to keep bees in the city but feel overwhelmed with information this is the class for you. We'll be splitting the classroom instruction into three parts to adequately cover the information and students will be able to attend a field session after the last classroom session to look at a functional apiary if desired. • Introduction to old-time music jams
Time: 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Location: Lake City library
Interested in playing old-time and contra dance music? Intimidated by the idea of showing up as a newbie to one of the open jams at the Tractor Tavern or Conor Byrne's? Come to the Slower Than Dirt Old-Time Jam!

We will be hosting an old-time jam especially for people who are newer to jamming, with tunes played at a slow learning pace and repeated until everyone's sick of them and wants to move on. The jam is open to players of all instruments and all abilities, with the following recommendations:

+ You should know how to tune your instrument, or at least how to recognize when it's out of tune so you can ask for help tuning it.
+ You should be able to play basic melodies -- "Mary Had a Little Lamb" or "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" for example -- on the instrument you bring. We might be able to give you some pointers on the basics of playing your instrument, but that's not really what this is about.
+ If your instrument is normally a very loud one (the trumpet, say), please bring a mute. If you play an instrument which can't be muted (can bagpipes be muted?), let us know and we'll see what we can do about having at least one session outdoors.

What to bring: Yourself and an instrument.

• Beginning Edible & Native Plant Identification
Time: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Location: Carkeek Park
CLASS IS FULL!
If you are curious about wild food and foraging, but don’t quite know how to get started, come on this introductory walk through Carkeek Park to learn about various native and edible plants. The walk will be led by Leslie Seaton, who runs the event calendars Fresh-Picked Seattle (food events), Freeattle (free events) and Seattle Natural Selection (outdoor & nature events). She’s spent the past three years attending many wild food events and knows just what’s it’s like to be an absolute beginner at botany.

This walk is targeted at beginners and will focus not only on the specific plants we see that day, but also on strategies and resources (books, organizations, classes, etc.) that have helped Leslie move from complete novice to….*less* of a novice and that can help you continue your learning after the walk.

We won’t be able to harvest from this city park, but there might be samples available so you can try things. A link to a PDF online resource packet with photos and recipes will be made available after the walk to all attendees.

Photography can be an excellent way to get started with learning plant identification, so if you have a camera or camera-phone, charge it up and bring it along! Also pen and paper for notes or sketches. If there is a real deluge, we might need to reschedule, but if it’s sprinkling, we’ll probably continue. Walk is limited to ten people. If there is additional interest, additional dates might be scheduled.

As a note the specific meeting place at Carkeek Park will be emailed to all attendees by Jul 19th.
